About the event

The British–Kazakh Society is delighted to invite you to an upcoming webinar exploring the rich manuscript heritage of Kazakhstan and the ways in which these rare documents illuminate the country’s cultural and historical narratives.

Join us for an engaging discussion featuring:

  • David Hardy, BKS Director and BKS Education Group Chairman

  • Aizat Tubysheva, Staff Member of the Department for Organizing Research Work at the National Center of Manuscripts and Rare Books of the Republic of Kazakhstan

  • Nicholas Kontovas, Subject Librarian & Curator for the Caucasus, Central Asia & Turkey at the Bodleian Library and Lecturer at Oxford University

Together, our speakers will delve into the stories preserved in Kazakhstan’s manuscripts - from their intricate calligraphy and craftsmanship to their significance in understanding Central Asia’s intellectual traditions. Join us for a morning of discovery as we listen to the Whispers of the Steppe and uncover Kazakhstan’s story through its rare manuscripts.
