Kazakhstan Week: Sustainable Infrastructure in Central Asia: ESG, Investment, and Emerging Disputes Risks

On 21 January 2026, the British-Kazakh Society co-hosted a Panel Event and Networking Reception with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer LLP and British-Kazakh Law Association in London, as part of Kazakhstan Week. The event took place at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer’s office at Exchange House and brought together professionals from the legal, investment and infrastructure sectors.

The panel discussion, titled “Sustainable Infrastructure in Central Asia: ESG, Investment, and Emerging Disputes Risks”, focused on the growing role of ESG standards in infrastructure projects across the region, investment trends, regulatory developments and potential dispute risks in cross-border projects.

The panel featured Dr Patricia Nacimiento (Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer), Ekaterina Miroshnik (EBRD), Louise Barber and Roman Churakov (Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer), and was moderated by Alexander Gridasov. John Morrow (BKS Chairman's Advisory Board Member provided opening remarks. Speakers shared practical insights on balancing sustainability objectives with legal and commercial risk management in Central Asia.

The discussion was followed by a networking reception, providing an opportunity for guests to engage with speakers and strengthen professional connections. The event reflected the British-Kazakh Society’s ongoing commitment to promoting dialogue and cooperation between the UK and Kazakhstan in key areas of economic and legal development.
