BKS Webinar: Critical Minerals Policy and Challenges in the UK and Kazakhstan
12 Mar 2026
The British-Kazakh Society recently hosted a timely webinar on Critical Minerals Policy and Challenges in the UK and Kazakhstan, examining the growing strategic importance of critical minerals in an increasingly complex geopolitical and energy landscape. As global demand continues to rise for minerals essential to clean energy technologies, defence, and advanced manufacturing, the discussion explored how both the United Kingdom and Kazakhstan are refining their national strategies to develop resilient and sustainable supply chains.
During the session, speakers considered recent policy developments, regulatory approaches, and investment priorities in both countries. The discussion also addressed practical challenges facing governments and industry, including issues related to resource security, ESG standards, processing capacity, and the need for stronger cross-border cooperation. Particular attention was given to the potential for deeper UK–Kazakhstan collaboration in the critical minerals sector and the role that both public and private stakeholders can play in responding to growing global competition for these resources.
The webinar brought together expert perspectives from the policy, industry, and advisory communities, offering valuable insights for business leaders, investors, and policymakers interested in understanding the evolving opportunities and risks shaping the global critical minerals agenda.
The event was simultaneously translated into Russian to ensure accessibility for a broader audience. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A discussion, during which participants had the opportunity to raise questions and exchange views with the speakers.
